How much do bowling balls weigh?

Bowling balls weights different and depending on how much you can roll, will tell you which ball weight to get. If you go to the bowling alley right now, they will have all different weights like 6 pounds to 15 to 16 pounds bowling ball. The max weigh is 16 pounds. Most people in bowling leagues use a 15 pound ball but I have seen a few people use a 16 pound bowling ball. People who bowl for fun use 15 pounds or less and I have seen most people use a 12 pound ball while bowling.

These bowling balls in the bowling alley have different hand sizes to fit your hand to extra small for kids to double X size. My wife uses a 12 pound bowling ball when she bowls. I use a 16 pound ball.

Why should you use a heavier ball?

With lighter bowling balls, it may feel better cause it’s easier to roll but since it’s so light, these types of balls tend to bounce off the pins and not strike. Remember you have 10 pins to knock down so more weight means more pins that can be knocked down. The double wood which I can’t find a good picture of it but it’s one pin in front of another pin. With a lighter ball tends to bounce off one pin and don’t hit the one behind.

I lighter ball tends to miss whatever pin you are trying to hit. It’s harder to control it’s like trying to guide a paper airplane, since it’s weight so light you really can’t guide it where you want it to go. But something much heavier tend to be easier. So try if you can to use a heavier ball.

What’s the best bowling ball weigh to get that’s not to heavy?

One of the best ball weigh that I have seen is a 14 pound ball. It’s lighter than 15 ponds, it has a lot of control down lane, it can knock down pins like a 15 pounder, it’s not that heavy. A lot of older bowlers are going with a 14 pound ball due to its less than a 15 pound and they have more control.

Get the ball you feel that feels good to you. Please get in mind that the lighter the ball, the less pin action you will get. The heavier the ball, the pins you will knock down. Get out there and go bowling.
