What is a good bowling average for an amateur?

Amateur is different to some people. Some people think it’s people who just started bowling, some people think is someone who has been bowling for 2 years or more. Some people think it’s some who never bowled in a tournaments before. To me an amateur bowler is someone who been bowling a sometime like 2 years or more and an average of 160 and better. Now everyone bowls different and everyone catches on to things faster or slower or they or just good at bowling but that timeline is not the same for everyone. The one number thing you must do is bowl whenever you can to get better. Practice is the key in getting better in bowling.

If you can average around 160, then you are pretty good. You can pick up shares and throw strikes at a good pace. You do leave some open frames but a lot of people do that. You are getting better at bowling.

How to get a higher bowling average?

Getting a higher bowling average is tough cause bowling or nay sport that you play, the more time you don’t bowl, the more likely you won’t get better and you may lose some of your skill over time by not bowling. The best thing you is watch bowling on TV and learn whatever you can from that. When I watch bowling on TV, I look at how the pro bowler stand, I look at the ball they are using.

I look at their hand position. I look at ball rotation and ball speed. I look at spare shooting. I just change the way I shoot at the ten pin. I use to use a plastic bowling ball for the ten pin but now I use a hook ball. I see how pro bowlers flatten their hand for shares and now I am doing the same thing. Look for those thing while watching bowling on TV. Practice is very needed for bowling. Whatever you are weak in for bowling, you should work on that. Also work try to bowl different that you are used to.

For example, if you bowl straight, try to ball more left for a right handed bowling. Try to more the lane up more by hooking the ball more. There will come a time where you need to bowl different and you need to have the tool in your tool box. I know some bowling that bowl straight, when it’s time to move more left and give the ball more hook, they have a hard time cause they never tired it and learned it.

So work on the weak part of your game. Try to learn different bowling spots on the floor. Learn how to slow down ball speed and increase ball speed by stepping back on the approach or stepping up on the approach. Try bowling on dryer lanes then try bowling on oily lanes. If you go to the bowling alley late night, there is a good chance that those lanes are burned up. Going to the bowling alley early in the morning, there is a good chance the lane has oil.

You want to have all of these tools in your tool box. There has been times in league play where there was little oil on the floor. I love playing straight but that night I had to hook the ball more and play more left. I know how to do this and I bowl a 714 set cause I practice this over and over again.
